Southern Railway hopes to bring trains back the Alberni Valley if the Raven coal mine gets approval

A railway company operating in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley is considering reviving the line that extends to Port Alberni if the Raven coal mine is approved by provincial regulators.

Train service has not been provided to the Alberni Valley since 2001, but this could change if the Raven Underground Coal Project gets the green light from the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office. Continue reading →

‘Santas of Anarchy’ Deliver Coal to Port Planners

From Vancouver Media Co-op:

PORT OF VANCOUVER – Several singing Santas dropped in on Port Metro Vancouver this morning to deliver lumps of coal and a message not to develop the massive Fraser Surrey Docks coal terminal.

The reception was frosty. The Santas delivered their lumps of coal, read some public criticism of coal exports and sang some songs before leaving. One Santa was briefly detained by Vancouver police.

Fuck Lafarge!

Graffiti found on Texada Island denouncing Lafarge. Lafarge is the company complicit in trying to increase coal import and export by ten fold despite community resistance. This increase would be part of the Fraser Surrey Dock expansion proposal that is receiving flax all across the board. Capitalism and it’s corporate bosses don’t give a shit bout that now do they? Wanna sign another petition? Give me a break! At least these folks got some well deserved redecorating in
